"St George et le Dragon"

Saint-George et le Dragon est une petite peinture d'armoire par le maître de la Haute Renaissance italienne Raphaël, 1504-1506. La peinture était un point fort de la collection Pierre Crozat qui a été acquise par la médiation de Diderot par Catherine II de Russie en 1772. Pendant un siècle et demi, le panneau s'est accroché au Musée Impérial de l'Ermitage. C'était l'une des peintures les plus populaires de toute la collection des Tsars. En mars 1931, les bolcheviks vendirent le tableau à Andrew Mellon, qui le céda à la Washington Gallery.
